Description
Much smaller (48cm) and more vivid than the Cormorant. Its flight is similar to the Coot, but its tail is long. Its head is small and round. In spring the head of both the male and female is red-brown. Its plumage is blackish, glossed with green and bronze with small white spots. In Hungary the Pygmy cormorant is migrant, a small colony has been established at Hortobágy fishponds. Ocassionally overwinters.
