Description
55 cm. Very elegant, tenuous, long-necked surface-feeding duck. It has slim, grey bill with black sides, chocolate-brown head and gleaming white neck-stripe and breast. The Pintail has long, spiky black and buff feathers and creamy patch in front of black undertail. Its black central tail feathers form long spike. In Hungary fairly common transient on lakes, but also breeds in small numbers near shallow ponds surrounded by short grassland, primarily on the Great Plain. Few individuals overwinter.
