Description
50 cm. Male Shovelers in breeding plumage look like male Mallards because of their green heads. However they can be easily distinguished by their dazzlingly white breast, dark, chestnut flanks and above all by their huge, long, broad, shovel-like bill. In Hungary it breeds on fishponds and marshes. Common during migration on lakes, rare in winter.

Habitat
Reedy pools, lakes, reservoirs, inland marshes, sheltered estuaries, grassy salt marshes

Can be found in the following IBAs
32 Hortobágy
