Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla):

37-42 cm. In adult plumage, it’s a simple gull with yellowish, short bill, white head with pointed black eyes, greyish back, short, black legs and black wing-tip. In juvenile plumage it is mainly black and white with grey. In this plumage rather similar to juvenile Little Gulls. Adult winter birds have a small, darker earcovert. Its call is very typical, it says its English name: „kitti-wake, kitti-wake”.

Habitat

It breeds on cliffs, rocks at the seashore, often in huge numbers. In Hungary it’s a rare visitor, mainly in autumn and early spring. Mainly juvenile birds appear on rivers, fishponds and lakes.
