White Stork (Ciconia ciconia)

95-110 cm. A large bird with strong, long, red bill, black eyes. Head, neck, tail and wing-coverts are white, primaries, tertials and secondaries are black. Legs are very long and red. In flight neck is straight.

Habitat

In Hungary it is still a fairly common breeder in villages, towns, and opened areas. Its huge nest can be found on telephone-posts, buildings, chimneys, draw-wells and trees. Migratory, in August big flocks are on the steppes. It returns at the end of March.
