Among these 373 species there are some birds whose largest population can be found in Hungary in Europe. If you would like to observe with reasonable chance Great Bustard (Otis tarda), Saker (Falco cherrug), Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca), Red-footed Falcon (Falco vespertinus), Lesser White-fronted Goose (Anser erythropus) or Aquatic Warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola), you must come to Hungary. Further on during spring and autumn passage large flocks of cranes and geese can be seen. So Hungary can be regarded a real paradise for birdwatchers...
The list below contains the short description and illustrations of the 52 IBA-qualifying birds. Information on the Hungarian population is cited from the Nomenclator Avium Hungariae further on we applied the serial numbers according to this literature. The bird pictures are made by Szabolcs Kókay, one of the most famous illustrator of Hungarian ornithological publishments. Some of his pictures are presented in our Gallery.
