| Péter Csonka - Tour Leader Péter Csonka is one of our Tour Leaders. He is resposible for designing the tours as well as for your guaranteed satisfaction. Péter has finished his studies at the Faculty of Surveying and Land Management of the Western-Hungarian University, then he postgraduated as Nature Conservational field engineer. Between 1998 and 2003 he was the secretary of the Komárom-Esztergom county of BirdLife Hungary and since 2003 he has been the member of the presidency of BirdLife Hungary. Since 2001 he has been a member of the control commission at the Natural Lifestyle Foundation. Currently he is working as nature conservation guard at the Duna-Ipoly National Park. Being a real raptor fanatic, Peter spends most of his time with protecting and studying raptors. He has been monitoring several nests of strictly protected raptor-species (such as Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Saker, etc.) and he has been working a lot in order to protect these species (winter feeding, placing out artificial nests, lobby, etc.). Thanks to his enthusiastic work, breeding of the Booted Eagle gets to be proved year by year in his country. He has been organising Saker nest-guarding camps since 1996, birding camps, different birding events for over a decade and birding races for several years. He has observed 320 bird species in Hungary so far. During his field birding, some of his biggest experiences were: finding an adult Lesser Kestrel, an immature Black-eared Wheatear, and adult Arctic Tern and also finding a Franklin's Gull in the Hortobágy, after 5weeks (it was the second record in this area). Beside these, he proved the occurrences of Brent Goose, Booted Eagle (breeding), Terek Sandpiper, Pygmy Owl, Common Rosefinch, Cirl Bunting and Ortolan Bunting (breeding). During his birding trips he visited Austria, Croatia, Estonia, Finnland, France, Greece, Holland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey and India. |
| Katalin Kovács - Tour Leader Katalin finished her studies at the Faculty of Surveying and Land Management of the Western-Hungarian University Sspeaks good English, German and Spanish. She has been an activist of BirdLife Hungary organising several field programmes for birders. Being a qualified tourist guide, she is a great help in preparations of all guided trips and if required, she can help you to get acquainted also with the cultural and historical sides of the places visited. Katalin spends much of her time in the raptor protectional works, but she is also interested in the woodpeckers and flycatchers. During her birding trips she visited several countries e.g. Argentina, Austria, Croatia, Estonia, Finnland, Greece, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, United Kingdom and USA. |
| Bence Kókay - Tour Leader Bence has been working as a civil servant for BirdLife Hungary for several years. Currently he is studying at the College of Kecskemét on the Faculty of Horticulture. Bence is an active birder for 9 years. Among several birdwatching hotspots in Hungary his favourite area is Kiskunság National Park, where he observed Canada Goose, Lesser White-fronted Goose, Citrine Wagtail, White-tailed Plover (four birds, first flock record for Hungary), Baird's Sandpiper (first observation in Hungary). His list also includes other fascinating birds, like Great Bustard, Collared Pratincole, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, Great Black-headed Gull, Great Skua, Saker, Steppe Eagle, Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Sea Eagle, Great Spotted Eagle, Ural Owl. He has observed 282 species in Hungary so far. His favourite bird groups are the geese, waders and gulls. During his birding trips he visited Slovakia, Romania, Croatia and Italy. |
| Antal Bagdi - Tour Leader Antal has been watching birds for over 18 years. He is the Coordinator of the Hungarian Bee-eater protection program at Bird Life Hungary , also leading the Sandmartin programme in his county. He has a particular interest in bird protection especially on these species. Antal has spent some years doing fieldwork on the islands of the Danube which is one of his favourit birding areas. His list includes Whooper swan, Red-brested Goose, Ruddy Schelduck, Imperial Eagle, Jack snipe, Pectoral Sandpiper, Sabine's Gull, Terek Sandpiper, Red-breasted Flycatcher in Hungary. He has traveled widely in Europe, USA and China. |
| Norbert Riezing - Tour Leader Norbert is graduated from the University of West-Hungary as a Forest Engineer. Currently, he studies for his Ph.D. in Botany. His field of research is vegetation-dynamics of the special Hungarian forest-steppe. Beside Botany and Ornithology he is also interested in Herpetology, Ichtyology and Mammalogy discovering rare plant species and new locations of Snake-eyed Skink and Pygmy Field Mouse. Norbert has been birding since 1989 and has been an activist for the BirdLife Hungary, organising plenty of excursions and other programs for birders. He is the programme leader at the local group of BirdLife Hungary in Komárom-Esztergom County, recently starting a mapping program on the breeding birds in this region. During his field birding he has found many rarities, such as: Ruddy Shelduck, Spotted Eagle, Booted Eagle, Terek Sandpiper, Great Snipe, Grey Phalarope, Arctic Tern, Citrine Wagtail, Bonelli's Warbler, Scarlet Rosefinch, Cirl Bunting, Ortolan Bunting. During his birding trips he visited Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, United Kingdom, Turkey, Egypt and India. |
| László Kozma - Tour leader László has been an active birder for over 14 years and since 1995 he has spent most of his free time on raptor protection and population survey. He has a wide knowledge of the ethology of Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Eagle and Saker. His main working area is NW Hungary, helping a lot to the experts of the local Fertő-Hanság National Park. Beside his great enthusiasm to the raptors, he regularly participates in the monitoring works of the local migrating/wintering Great Bustard population, as well as in the wetland reconstructions in the Hanság area. During the years he has seen several Hungarian rarities, like Red-breasted Goose, Ruddy Shelduck, Greater Spotted Eagle, Egyptian Vulture. On his birding trips he has visited Austria, Romania, Greece, Turkey and Syria. |
| László Albert - Tour Leader Laszlo has been watching bird since 1988, when he was 14. He was graduated from the University of West-Hungary as a Game manager, and from Eötvös Lóránd University as a Zoologist. He is working for the Budapest Zoo, as a keeper, on a field of South-American animals. He is a member of Birdlife Hungary, "B" member of IUCN, and co-founder a local society, called The Birding Circle of the Outskirts of Budapest. Among this society he has been surveying, and monitoring a wide range of birds of Danube since 1994, researching mute swan since 1997, presenting nature conservation activity for children on the field and schools as well. His favourite areas: Danube, mainly Danube-bend, Kiskunság, Hortobágy. He has observed 307 species in Hungary so far, rarities from his Hungarian list includes: Lesser White-fronted Goose, White-tailed Plover, Baird's Sandpiper, Great Bustard, Collared Pratincole, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, Great Black-headed Gull, Great Skua, Saker, Steppe Eagle, Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Great Spotted Eagle, Ural Owl, Great Northen Diver, Slender-billed Curlew, Terek Sandpiper, Sociable Plover, Red-rumped Swallow, Great Spotted Cuckoo, Arctic Tern, American Golden Plover, Paddyfield Warbler, Aquatic Warbler, White Pelican, Cattle Egret, Bewick's Swan, Red-breasted Goose. He loves all group of birds, especially the waders, gulls, that's why he has participated in some international project, for instance: Griffor Vulture Conservation Project in Cres, Croatia, Messina, Raptor Survey in Sicily, Italy.
