Rétszilas in the Sárvíz valley


Day 1 -Rétszilas

Key species: Little Bittern, Squacco Heron, Purple Heron, Ferrugineous Duck, Mediterranean Gull, Whiskered and Black Tern, Bearded Tit, Penduline Tit

After a two hour drive from Budapest we will reach the fish-pond system in Sárvíz valley. We will birding on a private property of a fishing company mainatining and operating the fish-pond system. In the morning hours we will enjoy the intensive movement of herons like

  • Squacco Heron;
  • Purple Heron;
  • Bittern;
  • Little Bittern.

    We will walk around the lakes where songbirds and more water birds can be seen such as

  • Ferruginous Duck;
  • Mediterranean Gull,
  • Whiskered and Black Tern;
  • Bearded Tit; and
  • Penduline Tit.

    We will continue our trip to visit some grassy lands and one salt lake called Dragon Lake. In these nice habitats, besides several song birds and raptors we can see with reasonable chance such unique species like

  • Black-winged Stilt;
  • Avocet; or
  • Kentish Plover.
